Katherine Napangcuk Leinberger is from Uusenkaaq (Ouzinkie) and she grew up in Bethel. Her parents are Sheila Leinberger from Ouzinkie, AK and Marc Leinberger, from Steeleville, IL and her grandparents are Angeline Campfield and Gene Anderson from Ouzinkie and Don and Judy Leinberger from Illinois. She is a tribal citizen of the Native Tribe of Ouzinkie and graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Alaska Native Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Secondary Education from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Napangcuk was a summer intern for First Alaskans Institute in the 2019 cohort. She has previously worked with Native Village of Afognak and Ouzinkie Native Corporation as well. While she used to spend long summer days in Ouzinkie, now she is based in Dena’ina Ełnena (Anchorage), but she still makes an effort to get out on the land and pick berries and get out on the water any time she can. Napangcuk joined FAI in February of 2023 and her role is to support FAI’s daily operations and be the first point of contact to our communities.
