Leadership Development at First Alaskans Institute

First Alaskans Institute Elders & Youth Conference
The First Alaskans Institute Elders & Youth Conference strengthens the knowledge and self-confidence of Native people to speak out and create change within themselves and in their communities. The conference celebrates Alaska Native intellect and encourages young people and Elders to pursue the great task of maintaining traditional Native values and practices, while thriving in the modern world.

Summer Internship Program
The internship program places Alaska Native graduate and undergraduate students in partnering organizations. Partnering organizations provide challenging work place experiences while First Alaskans provides leadership development discussions, classes, and networking experiences to participating interns.

Public Policy Fellowship
The public policy fellowship program places interested Alaska Natives in partnering legislative offices in Juneau, Alaska. The goal of the legislative fellowship is that emerging Native leaders will be familiar with the legislative process; will understand their own histories; will learn and use the skill of past, present and future leadership; and will know the emerging issues that confront Alaska Natives and the State of Alaska. Like the summer internship program, participants will have a real work experience that will give them hands-on experience working with the legislative and political process.
